This tear bottle in our contemporary hand-blown line was named the “Verdigris” because the word “verdigris” refers to a green or bluish coating formed on copper, brass or bronze surfaces as they age. And that description reminds us of this beautiful new tear bottle!

• This hand-made creation has been flame-worked with a coppery-colored glass at the base of the bottle gracefully melding upwards into the bluish-green glass.

• This tear bottle stands approximately 2” high.

• It is proudly Made in the U.S.A.

• Each tear bottle is individually made by a glass artist and will vary slightly in shape and color.

• Our heirloom quality bottles each come with a gift bag and a story card about the tear bottle history, along with a dome as shown.

The cap is a smooth Burnt Red Tiger Eye cabachon stone; a hand-carved cork stopper secures the cap to the bottle.

• The opaque nature of the glass, along with the bottle’s slender shape, is reminiscent of some ancient Roman tear bottles produced around 100 A.D. In olden days, tear bottles were used as a mourning tradition. Women of ancient Rome were known to capture their tears in vials and bury them with loved ones to symbolize love and honor. During the Victorian era, tear bottles were also considered a mourning tradition; nineteenth-century century mourners had tear bottles with special stoppers that allowed the tears to evaporate; once they were gone, the mourning period would end, but the bottle remained as a token of eternal devotion.

• These tear bottles also make beautiful keepsakes to treasure the memory of a loved one― holding ashes, a lock of hair, dried flowers, a prayer, or other personal memento of remembrance.
